The Hyndburn Academy is celebrating after one of its students won an award at United Learning’s national Best in Everyone Awards.

The awards recognise the impressive achievements of United Learning’s students and staff across the country. They include awards for academic excellence, extracurricular achievements and service to school communities.  As well as showcasing the talents of the Group’s students and staff, they also recognise some of the Group’s most dedicated, hard-working and inspirational individuals.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s awards ceremony took place virtually rather than as part of a live event.  Each winner was announced via a special video on Twitter, personalised to include a message of congratulations from their school’s Head Teacher or the member of staff who nominated them.  Schools across the country, as well as family members and friends, were then able to share these moving and engaging videos, and join together in celebrating the winners from home.

Scooping the Drama Award: Years 7-9, The Hyndburn Academy student Bradley Graham saw off strong competition from a field of excellent candidates from across United Learning.  It was Bradley’s teachers who nominated him for the award as a result of his unparalleled enthusiasm, talent and dedication to the subject.

Since he joined the academy, Year 9 student Bradley has given exemplary performances in key roles in each of the school’s annual productions, namely playing Miss Trunchbull in ‘Matilda’, Mike Teeve in ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ and the Lion in ‘The Wizard of Oz'.  As well as this, he has helped to lead a culture shift in the school, encouraging more boys to get involved in the performing arts.

Commenting on receiving the award Bradley said:

“I’m so happy to receive this award and I would like to thank Miss Alcott and former teacher Mr Massey for everything they have done for me and for the school for believing in me.  I am proud to be a student at The Hyndburn Academy and I'm honoured to win this award for the school.”

Commenting on Bradley’s win, Miss Allcott, Performing Arts Lead at The Hyndburn Academy, said:

“Congratulations to Bradley on this fantastic award.  Across the school, Bradley is known for his infectious enthusiasm and outstanding talent for performing arts.  As well as showcasing his dramatic abilities on stage in our school productions, he is always on hand to help staff members with behind-the-scenes preparations for shows and is a role model for many of our younger students.  Bradley is a credit to The Hyndburn Academy and is highly deserving of this national recognition.  We look forward to watching him grow and continue to develop his craft in the years to come.”

A commemorative video celebrating all of this year’s winners will soon be released showcasing the hard work, commitment and breadth of talent across the Group.  United Learning is set to hold its annual Best in Everyone Awards in 2021 which will recognise those staff and students who have made a particularly Outstanding Contribution to their school or local community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
