Students at The Hyndburn Academy Craft Poppies for local women's institute. Published on : 05 November 2021 / Categories: General Members of The Hyndburn Academy’s Craft Club have been lending their skills to an important cause by hand-crafting poppies for the Great Hardwood Women’s Institute. Inspired by the Royal British Legion Centenary celebrations this November, students have been creating poppies for the Great Harwood Women’s Institute to raise money in support of anyone who has served or is currently serving in the British Army. The poppies, which are made from sustainable materials, will be on display at Great Harwood Town Gate from 6 November until 20 November. Craft Club is part of The Hyndburn Academy’s extracurricular offering and has proven popular amongst students across all its year groups. Students stay after school to get involved in activities which spark their creativity and provide opportunities to get involved in their local community. One of the students involved, Maryanne, said: “I have really enjoyed making the poppies during our craft club. The group are so proud that they will be on display in Great Harwood. It was lovely to present the poppies to the ladies from the Women’s Institute.” Nicola Palmer, Headteacher at The Hyndburn Academy, said: “We are very proud that our students have been showing their support for British service personnel, past and present, by hand-making poppies for our local Great Hardwood Women’s Institute this term. “After a challenging 18 months for everyone, it remains incredibly important that we support our local community and help out in any way that we can— and these poppies will help raise vital funds for the Royal British. “Extracurricular activities such as this are all part of The Hyndburn Academy’s wider commitment to providing our students with an Education with Character, which reflects the importance of respect, kindness and service.” Previous Article Alton Towers Rewards Trip Next Article 12th Man Podcast Print
