Able, Gifted and Talented

The Hyndburn Academy will aim to stretch and challenge all students.  We however recognise that some students are exceptionally able and gifted in one or more areas. We will aim to continuously review students progress to ensure that students are identified, challenged and starched through a range of activities. In relation to identification we identify:

  • Able students as those who have the capacity for, or demonstrate high levels of performance in traditional academic areas; students show the potential to achieve at a higher level than the majority of their peers;
  • Gifted students are those capable of exceptional performance: representing around 0.5% of the population nationally. Average CAT score of over 126 (Gifted) 120 (Very Able) or exceptionally high score in one battery e.g. Non Verbal score 125. Non-verbal 120+;
  • Talented students show ability through creative or physical talents. They show ability or excel in areas such as Art, Music, Drama, Sports, Technologies or the Performing Arts.

Regular meetings with parents will aim to outline the bespoke provision we offer as part of our ‘Scholars programmes’.
