How to Apply
If you would like to apply for a place for your child in Year 7 at The Hyndburn Academy, parents/carers must complete the online Lancashire Common Application Form published by Lancashire County Council. Information regarding the completion of the form can be obtained from your child’s primary school or from the council offices. Parents/Carers will be notified in writing of the outcome of their application.

If you would like the Academy to have further information that would support your Child’s application to the Academy then please request a supplementary information form from the Academy and return to us by the closing date stated on the form.
This form is a supportive document; please make sure you also fill in the Lancashire Common Application Form.
The Published Admission Number for Year 7 for September intake is 135. The criteria will be applied in the following order:
- Children with a Statement of Special Educational Needs that names The Hyndburn Academy
- Children in Public Care (Looked After Children)
- Children who have specific medical needs, social needs and special needs
- Children currently with an older sister or brother at The Hyndburn Academy at point of admission into the Academy
- Students who have received education within a school that is within the linked learning family federation of schools for United Learning
- Children whose permanent address is closest to the Academy
Waiting List and Appeals Process
If you are unsuccessful in being allocated a place at The Hyndburn Academy, you will be placed on our waiting list. This list is ranked according to the same criteria as those used for admissions. You will be asked to notify us that you wish to be held on this list and will be contacted directly once a place is available. You may appeal against our decision not to offer you a place and must do so in writing to the admissions officer within 14 days of being notified that you have not been offered a place. An independent appeal panel will hear your appeal.

Once you have completed an appeal form you should return it to us here at the Academy.
In Year Admissions
If you wish to apply for a place at The Hyndburn Academy for Year 7 after December 31st 2017 or in any other year group, please contact the Academy to enquire if there are any places available. If the year group is full, then you will be added to the waiting list for the relevant year group. The waiting list is compiled in accordance with the Academy Admissions Policy.
The Academy Admissions Policy places great emphasis upon family values and equity. The admissions applications will be considered against the admissions criteria for the current year in which you are applying to join the school.
The Academy’s in year appeals process is managed by Lancashire County Council and is completely independent of the Academy. If you wish to appeal for a place in a year group that is full then please contact the local area access team at the following address:
