Academy Uniform

  • Academy Blazer
  • White shirt with long or short sleeves. Must be tucked in and the top button must be done up 
  • Academy Tie, Year 7-10 Grey and Blue Striped, Year 11 Navy Tie 
  • Plain black tailored trousers, no flared or skinny fit trousers, no skin tight material, no jeans or leggings. Trousers should be smart and business like. Trousers should cover the ankle.
  • Academy Logo Navy pleated skirt, no fitted skirts or short skirts, Skirts should worn 1 inch above the knee.
  • Plain black socks or black tights. No bows or frills.
  • Shoes - plain polishable black shoes not resembling trainers, flat heeled, leather or leather look formal school shoes. 
  • Plain black boots can be worn under trousers 
  • Navy v-necked logo knitted jumper [Optional] 
  • Headscarfs worn for religious purposes must be plain black or navy 
  • Hair Accessories are for purpose and not fashion, these should be small and dicreet. No bows.

PE Uniform

  • Hyndburn Academy black and purple sports polo shirt
  • Hyndburn Academy branded black and purple shorts, skort, tracksuit pants or leggings. No cotton leggings to be worn in PE.
  • ¼ zip Hyndburn Academy branded black and purple jumper  
  • Suitable Trainers – No Canvas pumps or high tops 
  • Hyndburn Academy black and purple football socks, black socks to be worn with skort
  • Bobble - long hair must be tied back 
  • Earrings must be removed for PE lessons

Jewellery

Jewellery is limited to  a wrist watch (no smart watches) and a pair of plain silver or gold studs.

Any student wearing any other jewellrey will be asked to instantly remove it and it may be confiscated until the end of term. No rings, necklaces or bracelets allowed.

The only exception to this is where there is a known and accepted religious expectation. 

Piercings

If you do decide to allow your child to have additional piercings, please ensure that they are removed for school.

This will be strictly enforced and students not following the Academy rules maybe withdrawn from mainstream lessons until the issue has been fully resolved. 

Hairstyles

Hairstyles should be appropriate for a professional setting. Unusual styles, colours, shavings or patterns are not permitted. Hair must be of a natural colour. Students may be asked to tie their hair back for health and safety reasons. Those who choose to wear braid extensions must ensure that the braids match their natural hair colour. Coloured braids are not allowed in the Academy.

Make-up

Make up, if worn by older students (Year 10 onwards), should be discreet. False lashes are not acceptable at any time. If students wear excessive make-up, they will be requested to remove it.

Nails

No nail varnish or false nails at any time. If students wear nail varnish or false nails, they will be requested to remove it. 

Watches & Smart Watches

A simple wristwatch can be worn. However, they must not be smart watches. 

Mobile Phones

Mobiles / smart phones and electronic devices are not permitted for use within the academy. Pupils must ensure these devices are switched off before entering the school gates. 

If seen during the school day, such items will be confiscated and returned only to parents or carers.

Headphones, earphones or earpods are also prohibited and must not be worn/used anywhere on the Academy site.

Outside Wear

Outdoor jackets, jumpers, or cardigans other than school uniform, should not be worn at any time inside the Academy.  

During cold periods pupils may wear the academy jumper underneath their blazer. Hats and caps need to be removed before entering the building. 

Hoodies are not acceptable and should not be brought into school. 

Non-Uniform Days

On non-uniform days, students are expected to dress sensibly and modestly and still observe the dress code in relation to jewellery. If your child has PE on a non-uniform day, they can wear appropriate sportswear.

The following are not allowed on dress down days:

  • No crop tops or short tops
  • No shorts that are short in length
  • No pyjamas or onesies
  • No offensive slogans on clothing 

All normal school rules apply throughout the dress down day, including bringing a school bag with the necessary equipment. Jewellery must be removed for PE or any subject instructed by staff.

Tattoos

Tattoos are not permitted. It is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to have a tattoo, even with parental consent. Any instances of visible tattoos will be referred to the Academy's Safeguarding Team.
