Students at The Hyndburn took on an incredible creative challenge this week as they learned, rehearsed, and performed The Wizard of Oz — all in just one day — as part of our Play in a Day experience.
From the very start of the morning, students were immersed in the world of Oz, learning their scripts, developing characters, and working together to stage a full performance by the end of the day. Alongside acting, students also helped bring the production to life with sound and lighting, gaining hands-on experience of what goes on behind the scenes in theatre.
Despite the tight timescale, the final performance was a huge success and showcased not only the students’ talent, but also their teamwork, resilience, and enthusiasm for the performing arts.
Mrs Wilson, Head of Performing Arts, said:
“I am incredibly proud of all the students involved. The way they rose to the challenge, supported one another, and delivered such a confident performance in just one day was fantastic to see.”
Brooke, who took on the leading role of Dorothy, shared their excitement:
“It was really fun to learn everything so quickly. I loved playing Dorothy and performing with my friends — I’m really proud of what we achieved together.”
The performance was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience, with one parent commenting:
“Fabulous! A real treat for the audience and a fantastic achievement for Mrs Wilson and Ms Jukes and the wonderful children.”
In addition to the performance, a raffle was held on the day, raising £80 for CHARM fundraising, helping to support a great cause.
The Play in a Day experience was a memorable event for everyone involved and a brilliant celebration of creativity, collaboration, and confidence on stage.
