Students taking part in the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award have successfully completed their second practice walk as they continue preparations for their qualifying expedition, scheduled for the 1st and 2nd of May.
The latest practice session saw students building on the skills they developed during their first walk, demonstrating increased confidence in navigation, teamwork, and endurance. Staff have praised the group for their positive attitude and growing independence as they progress through the award.
With the qualifying expedition fast approaching, upcoming sessions will focus on essential practical skills. This week, students will take part in a hands-on workshop learning how to correctly pitch and pack away their tents, an important component for ensuring comfort and safety during their overnight expedition. Next week, the focus will shift to cooking skills, where students will plan and prepare simple meals suitable for outdoor conditions.
Miss Smith, the school’s Duke of Edinburgh Leader, commented on the group’s progress:
"It’s been fantastic to see how much the students have developed already. Their teamwork and determination are really shining through, and they’re becoming much more self-reliant. These final preparation sessions will give them the confidence and skills they need to succeed on their qualifying expedition."
