Students recently took part in a week-long residential visit to Jamie’s Farm in Hereford, an experience designed to build confidence, resilience, and independence through hands-on learning in a supportive environment.
Throughout the week, students fully immersed themselves in farm life, taking on a wide range of daily tasks including caring for animals, preparing meals, working outdoors, and supporting one another as a team. Each activity encouraged students to step outside their comfort zones, develop responsibility, and grow in confidence.
The residential provided a valuable opportunity for students to reflect, connect with nature, and experience success in new and challenging situations. By the end of the week, students showed increased self-belief, improved teamwork, and a real sense of achievement.
Mr Ashton, Youth Support Worker, praised the students’ attitude and commitment:
“A fantastic week on the farm. Students were fantastic and motivated, taking on every job with enthusiasm and determination.”
Student Charlie reflected on their experience, saying:
“At first I was nervous, but as the week went on I felt more confident. I learned new skills, made new friends, and I’m really proud of what I achieved.”
The trip to Jamie’s Farm was a hugely positive experience and a powerful example of learning beyond the classroom, supporting students’ personal development and confidence in a meaningful and lasting way.
