Duck, dip, dive and dodge - Year 7 Glow Dodgeball

Our Year 7 students proudly represented Team HYA at a recent Glow-in-the-Dark Dodgeball tournament, with both our girls’ and boys’ squads demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork and respect throughout the event.

All 12 students were fantastic ambassadors for the school, showing enthusiasm, commitment and exemplary behaviour both on and off the court.

The tournament placed a strong emphasis on honesty and sportsmanship, with schools awarding their opponents points after each match for demonstrating teamwork, friendliness, fair play and respect. This meant success was not simply about winning matches, but about how teams conducted themselves and treated others.

Our girls’ squad achieved an incredible milestone, bringing home the gold medals for the third consecutive year! They earned the highest number of honesty points from their opponents, consistently demonstrating the values celebrated throughout the tournament.

Our boys’ squad also performed brilliantly, narrowly missing out on the top spot. They accumulated an impressive number of points and maintained excellent behaviour throughout the evening.

PE teacher Miss Southward said:

“I am incredibly proud of all 12 students for the way they represented Team HYA. The tournament was about much more than winning; it was about showing respect, playing fairly and supporting one another. Our girls achieving gold for the third consecutive year is a fantastic accomplishment, and the boys should be equally proud of their efforts. They all demonstrated what it means to show respect and be excellent ambassadors for our school.”

Putting Respect into Action

This achievement is a wonderful example of our school value of Respect in action. Respect means treating others fairly, valuing opponents, following the rules and demonstrating good sportsmanship, whatever the outcome of a game.

Our students showed that success is about much more than the final score. Their willingness to play fairly, support one another and represent Team HYA positively reflects the character we encourage across our school community.

Congratulations to both squads on their fantastic efforts, and a special well done to our girls’ team on securing gold for the third year running. We are incredibly proud of all 12 students for representing our school with such distinction and demonstrating that respect is at the heart of being a successful team.
