Future Careers Come to Life for Year 8 Students at Blackburn Rovers

Fifteen Year 8 pupils recently took part in the launch of the Your Lancashire, Your Future event held at Blackburn Rovers on Friday, enjoying an exciting and interactive Modern Work Experience Day.

The event gave students the opportunity to meet employers from a variety of sectors and learn more about the wide range of careers available across Lancashire. Throughout the day, students participated in Labour Market Information sessions and a series of hands-on activities designed to encourage discussion about their own future aspirations and career pathways.

Students particularly enjoyed taking on the role of a news reporting team, coding a robot to dance, and learning how to manoeuvre a truck as part of a logistics challenge. Many students also showed a keen interest in Leyland Trucks, where they explored truck design and manufacturing, and discovered how technology is playing an increasingly important role within the industry.

The activities helped students understand how the skills they develop in school can link directly to future careers and employment opportunities. The experience also encouraged teamwork, communication, creativity and problem-solving skills in a fun and engaging environment.

Mrs Ross, Careers Lead, said:

"The Modern Work Experience Day at Blackburn Rovers was a fantastic opportunity for our Year 8 students to experience the world of work in a completely different environment. The students represented the Academy brilliantly and came away inspired, motivated and with a greater understanding of the many career opportunities available within the sports industry and beyond."

The visit forms part of the wider Your Lancashire, Your Future programme, which aims to help young people build confidence, develop employability skills and make informed decisions about their future education and career choices.
