Every Friday, a group of our students trade the classroom for the calm waters of Cornfield Fishery in Burnley as part of an exciting 6-week Fishing Intervention Programme. This unique initiative is designed to boost confidence, encourage mindfulness, and teach valuable life skills—all while enjoying the great outdoors.
The programme isn’t just about catching fish; it’s about creating opportunities for personal growth. Students learn patience, focus, and resilience as they master the art of angling. For many, it’s a chance to step away from screens and experience the tranquility of nature.
“It’s so peaceful here,” said Ellie said during last week’s session. “I’ve never done fishing before, but now I look forward to Fridays!”
Mr Ashton, Youth Support Worker have praised the programme for its positive impact on wellbeing and teamwork. Fishing requires problem-solving and perseverance—skills that translate far beyond the water’s edge.
Each session is fully supported, with all equipment provided and guidance from experienced anglers. By the end of the six weeks, students not only gain practical fishing skills but also a renewed sense of confidence and achievement.
We’re proud to offer this intervention as part of our commitment to supporting student wellbeing and creating memorable learning experiences outside the classroom.
