Inspiring Day at the Spirit of Cricket Festival

A group of Year 7 girls from The Hyndburn Academy recently attended the Spirit of Cricket Festival at Emirates Old Trafford, home of Lancashire Cricket, for an unforgettable day celebrating women’s cricket and teamwork.

The Women’s World Cup themed festival brought together 180 participants from schools across the region, giving students the opportunity to take part in a range of exciting cricket activities. Throughout the day, the girls completed batting, bowling and fielding challenges, worked through cricket skills stations and even played games on the iconic Old Trafford outfield.

The students represented the academy brilliantly, earning positivity and kindness points throughout the event and winning several of the activities on offer. Their enthusiasm, teamwork and sportsmanship stood out across the day and they were a real credit to the school.

One student said:

“It was such an amazing experience playing cricket at Old Trafford. I loved trying all the different activities and playing on the real cricket ground with my friends.”

PE teacher Miss Southward praised the students for their attitude and behaviour throughout the trip:

“It was definitely one of the best school trips I've been on - so well organised, fantastic students and some wonderful sunshine to go with it.”

The trip was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate women’s sport, encourage participation in cricket and create lasting memories for all involved.
