Year 11 GCSE Geography Field Trip to Fleetwood

Our Year 11 Geography students recently visited Fleetwood as part of their GCSE fieldwork requirements. This trip provided an excellent opportunity for students to apply classroom learning to real-world environments and collect primary data for their coursework.

Throughout the day, students explored key coastal features and investigated topics such as coastal management strategies, erosion, and the impact of tourism on the local economy. Practical activities included beach profiling, measuring longshore drift, and conducting environmental quality surveys around the town.

The fieldwork experience is an essential component of the GCSE Geography curriculum, helping students develop critical skills in data collection, analysis, and evaluation. It also encourages them to understand the challenges faced by coastal communities and the importance of sustainable management.

Sasha, Year 11, shared her thoughts:
“I really enjoyed the trip to Fleetwood. It was great to see the things we’ve learned in class happening in real life. Doing the beach profiling and surveys made the topic much easier to understand.”

Staff praised the students for their enthusiasm and teamwork throughout the day. The trip not only supported their academic studies but also gave them valuable insight into how geography shapes the world around us.

We would like to thank all staff involved in organising the visit and commend our students for their excellent behaviour and commitment to learning.
