A young Hyndburn Academy student is celebrating after winning a special Christmas card competition run by local MP Sara Britcliffe.

Young people across the constituency got the opportunity to submit their designs for a chance to see the Hyndburn MP choose one as her official Christmas card. In winning the creative challenge, Ella’s design was selected from 400 entries sent in by secondary school students across the area. The card is now set to be sent to local companies and community groups, as well as to other MPs and the Prime Minister.

Suitably festive and cheerful, Ella’s colourful design showcases her imagination and artistic ability. The card features one cartoon penguin decorating another with a string of Christmas baubles, whilst emblazoned along the bottom are a set of fairy lights etched with the words ‘Merry Christmas’.

To congratulate Ella on her win, Sara Britcliffe MP made a socially distanced visit to the academy last Monday where she safely gifted Ella with a copy of her winning card, alongside a House of Commons teddy and a notebook.

Competition winner Ella Freedman said:

I can't believe I have won out of so many entries. I am really happy my design will be sent to the Prime Minister

Sara Britcliffe MP said:

“I really enjoyed visiting this morning and meeting Ella. I loved her colourful design.  Thank you for making the time for me to visit.”

Nicola Palmer, Headteacher at The Hyndburn Academy, said:

“Congratulations to Ella on this well-deserved win! It is indicative of Ella’s creativity and imagination that her design was selected out of so many entries to the competition. All of us at the academy are incredibly proud of Ella and were pleased to be able to celebrate her achievement alongside Sara Britcliffe MP. I’m sure that the card will bring a smile to the faces of all who receive it.”
