Students and staff at The Hyndburn Academy are celebrating the grand opening of the school’s newly refurbished jetty, which will be available for use by both the school and local community.

On Tuesday 5th July, 'The Coates Jetty’ was formally opened by Sally Coates, Director of Secondary Education at United Learning, of which The Hyndburn Academy is a part. The school community joined together in celebration as Dame Sally cut the red ribbon, marking the official opening of the revamped jetty, and revealed the special accompanying plaque.

The Jetty will allow students and the wider Rishton community access to the water to take part in a wide range of water sports, including [Insert information about what sports will be available/ whether these sports will be included in the school’s PE curriculum/whether new water-based sports clubs will be set up etc].

The project was generously funded by The Super Slow Way, a local non-profit organisation which helps to create community social spaces, and expertly carried out by The Hyndburn Academy’s site supervisor Alex Braysford and staff member Iain O’Gorman.

Nicola Palmer, Principal at The Hyndburn Academy, said:

“It was wonderful to welcome Dame Sally to the school for the grand opening of our refurbished jetty. We are all so pleased to have this newly rebuilt facility which will not only benefit our own students but also our local community for generations to come. Thank you to our staff members Alex and Iain who have worked so tirelessly to see this project come to fruition and to The Super Slow Way for their generous support in making it a reality.”
